Trades for "prospects" don't generally get fans very excited, but in this case the two prospects were Walt Terrell (who would eventually be traded for Howard Johnson) and Ron Darling.

This trade wasn't too popular with Lee Mazzilli's lady admirers, but it was a good one for the Mets. The team acquired Ron Darling and Walt Terrell in return. Darling was a regular starter who accumulated 99 wins (and more than a few hard luck no-decisions) as a Met. Terrell won 19 games over three seasons with the team and provided some thrills at bat in August of '83 with three home runs of his own, two of which came in one game. Walt was then dealt to the Tigers for Howard Johnson, who became one the Mets' best hitters ever.

One more interesting fact about the trade is that Mazzilli would rejoin the Mets just in time for the 1986 World Championship.
