METS FANS SHARE THEIR MEMORIES OF THE JULY 30, 1973 GAME: Hank M October 15, 2008 This was the second game of a doubleheader I attended. It was also the first time I was at Shea for a game played at night. Looking at the field lit up amid the dark sky from the stands rather than on TV was quite a sight! Tug McGraw, normally a reliever, was the starting pitcher for the Mets for this game. He did pretty well, lasting into the sixth inning and allowing only one run before being taken out. The Mets took the lead in the fifth. Bud Harrelson led off with a triple to the right-center field wall. He later scored when he slid under the tag on a play at the plate. Gene Mauch argued with the umpire over it, but Buddy was safe. The lead didn't hold up, though. The Expos tied it and, in the tenth, won it. With the bases loaded, John Boccabella hit a fly ball down the left field line that just eluded Cleon Jones. It went for a double as all three Expo runners scored, finishing off a sweep of the doubleheader for Montreal.
