METS FANS SHARE THEIR MEMORIES OF THE SEPTEMBER 3, 2002 GAME:
September 4, 2002
Now Armando can't even save a meaningless game. I was in my car last night listening to the Mets Marlins game and the Mets were up 2-1 in the 8th. They mention Benitez is warming up for the 9th and then give the list of the Marlins due up. Preston Wilson, Dereck Lee and Juan Encarcion, all home run hitters. So I immediately think the Mets better score at least one run in the 8th (which they don't do) since you know Benitiez can't face three power hitters in a row without giving up a bomb. He may be able to out duel one power hitter, maybe two, but no way can he face three in a row and not groove a fast ball that someone can deposit in the stands. Sure enough Armando gives up a dinger to Wilson, the first batter. That fast ball doesn't always move and good hitters can catch up to it and turn it around. Thanks Armando for prolonging the home losing streak to 16 games. Loser!
