I believe the Mets acquired Foss from the Pirates. Why is anybody's guess.

Larry Foss, a Kansas native, went to Wichita State in the 1950s and then signed as an amateur free agent with the Pirates in 1955.

His major league career consisted of three games--all starts--for the defending World Champion Pirates in 1961, plus five games for the 1962 Mets.

Foss was the winning pitcher in his first major league game, an 8-6 Pirates win over the Cardinals at Forbes Field on September 18, 1961. He piitched seven innings and allowed three runs and six hits. The losing pitcher in Foss' first major league win was Bob Gibson!

The Mets claimed Foss on waivers in September of 1962. He appeared in four games in relief that September, and started one: the second game of a doubleheader against Houston on September 18. Foss allowed six runs and ten hits in five innings and was the losing pitcher in his only decision with the Mets.

His final major league appearance was on September 28, 1962 at Wrigley Field. He relieved Galen Cisco in a 3-2 Mets loss (their 119th of the season). Ron Santo was the final batter he faced in the majors, and Santo flied to right.

Foss was traded to the Braves early in the 1963 season but never appeared in another major league game.

I will admit, I wasn't very good, but really was 5 innings a true test for me?
