Big E Whatever happened to this guy? He was supposed to be the heir apparent to Franco. I know he got hurt, but he came back, and quickly faded away.
February 1, 2001 I saw him pitch in late 1996 and he looked great -- he even struck out four batters in an inning.
May 2, 2001 Every year we heard about how Wallace was going to be the closer of the future. Kept having arm problems and it ruined his career.
October 14, 2001 I remembered the Mets got Wallace from Kansas City, but I had forgotten the players involved. KC sent Wallace (who, ironically, they had gotten from the Cubs for another former Met, Brian McRae) and P John Carter (the dreaded "player to be named later") for Jason Jacome and P Allen McDill.
I love worthless trades. And it seems to me that nearly every worthless trade involves the Mets or a former Met.
September 4, 2003 First Mets pitcher ever to strike out 4 guys in one inning.
Then the injury, then the end of his career.
October 29, 2010 I also remember Derek Wallace being touted as Franco's successor. Then he just disappeared. Too bad.
