January 6, 2007 Now that Darren Oliver is gone, it appears that Williams will inherit his role of the spot/emergency starter and long reliever in 2007. Hopefully, he will successfully follow Oliver in that role.
I like Williams. He appears to be a dependable hurler. I got to see him pitch against the Rockies on '86 Night in August '06. When he was pitching, I was chanting "Daaavey" the way Goliath would say to his master on the old Saturday morning TV religious show. Dave also is a pretty good hitter.
Although Oliver Perez and John Maine pitched admirably in the 2006 NLCS, Williams would have been an interesting roll of the dice had he started. I think he would have complimented an unlikely starting pitching trio that, if successful, would have propelled the Mets into the World Series (and likely a championship).
Mets fan in Maine
October 13, 2007 He did nothing as one of the Mets' many fifth starters. His only claim to fame is that (I think) he's the only Met born in Alaska.
