HERE IS WHAT OTHER METS FANS HAVE TO SAY:

Alex
April 19, 2022
I usually keep track of all the Mets transactions and note even the smallest signings. But I had to do a double take when I saw "Matt Reynolds" on the 2022 New York Mets Baseball Reference page. I was like "THAT Matt Reynolds?" I thought maybe they'd brought aboard the pitcher of the same name from the mid-2010s (who upon further inspection hasn't played professionally since 2018), not the former Met infielder.

But here he is, back with New York. I guess I missed that he rejoined the organization, or totally forgotten about it.

I love it when old guys come back. No matter if they're from 10 years ago or three, they always help bring back memories. Matt Reynolds takes you back to 2016, when he debuted with the club. Oh yeah, I remember Asdrubal Cabrera! Curtis Granderson, he was awesome! Logan Verrett, Josh Smoker ... whatever happened to those guys? Is Hansel Robles still playing? James Loney played for New York?

Reynolds didn't do much with New York the first go-around (though he was a guy I pegged as a surprise breakout waiting to happen because he hit .343 between Double-A and Triple-A in 2014) and I'm not expecting much this time. (And to be frank, I'm surprised he's still playing at all, but I guess he hits well enough at Triple-A [.282 career average there] to justify teams' constantly signing him).

But still, how cool is it when a guy like this comes back? It's like when Wilfredo Tovar returned in 2021 after nearly a decade away. It takes you back, if briefly, to the past ... a past you think you're never going to forget, but somehow, you do.
