The late 2010s Mets had a handful of offensive guys who were not particularly well-regarded coming up through the minors, but still performed serviceably—for a while—once they got to the majors. Evans is one of them; T.J. Rivera and Ty Kelly also come to mind.
It wasn't to be, but I thought Evans could have been a decent piece on the big club after he hit .303 in his first 33 AB cup of coffee with the team in 2017. But then he fell below .150 in 2018 and that was it for his Mets career. After disappearing from the majors in 2019, he returned to hit .359 in 39 ABs with the Pirates in 2020, but again he fell off in his second try with them.
