Played with Dave in 1978 in Lynchburg. Dave had been in the Mets chain a few more years than me. Dave was on his last legs that summer. Literally. He had a bad knee and was always limping around. One memory of Dave is him standing on the trainers table, getting that knee wrapped. It probably would have kept most "prospects" on the bench, but not Dave. He came to play every night. He played the game the right way, hitting behind the runner, giving himself up etc. While his stats weren't great, Dave was a big plus for the ballclub. He also stole 32 bases that year...on one leg. He wasn't a big guy, but he'd get in your face if he thought you weren't hustling. I have recently been in touch with him. He hasn't changed.

I played with Dave for three seasons with Mets. Great guy, we had some good times together. Dave always played hard. Too bad he hurt his knee for he would have had a chance to make it. He also liked to taunt opposing players. Got us in a few team fights. Remember the Ossie race? He could really run until knee injury. Miss you Dave!
