Gossett came to the Lynchburg Mets in the middle of the 78 season. A high draft pick if I remember. He had a great arm and power at the plate. After batting practice we used to throw the football around in an adjacent field. Jeff starting punting it. We all looked at each other like "what are you doing messing around with baseball" he finished the year and never came back. Next I saw of him was on TV, punting in the NFL

I was the bat boy in Lynchburg. I got to see Jeff kick a football; it was amazing. He could nail it. I guess that's why he went to the NFL. I have a lot of great memories being the bat boy in 1978 with these guys.
