I saw his name recently and I had not thought of him in years! Picked by the Mets in the first round of the 1974 draft # 17 overall. Highly highly touted back then. Finally made his debut with the 1986 Braves a week short of his 30th birthday. Went 2 - 1 for them that year in August - September and that was it making him a one-year hit wonder (love those guys!). It took him 12 years to make it but he did it!

Cliff was a year ahead of me in the Mets chain. I did room with him one spring...78 I believe. Course, he was never there. His brother was getting a tryout with the Cards, who were also in St Pete, and he stayed in the room with me.

Cliff was an intense competitor. I'm glad he finally made it. That pension, while it might not be that much, is still free money.
