I remember a rainy day and Dave Rosselo scoring the only run.

After three days of rain kept the Mets and Cubs off the field, the teams returned to action with rusty bats. In the end, an 8th-inning RBI single by Ron Santo would be all the Cubs needed.
The Mets were shut down by Rick Reuschel, who used his sinker to get ground ball after ground ball, including three double plays. He left with a blister in the 8th, but Bob Locker worked out of trouble in the 8th and 9th to get the win. In both innings the Mets put a runner on 2nd with one out, but just couldn't find that clutch hit. Their magic number remained at 2 with the loss.
Jon Matlack was very strong despite the loss. He struck out Rick Monday a season-high 4 times, and when he fanned Santo in the 6th it was his 200th strikeout of the season, making him the first Mets lefty to reach 200 Ks. Four others have reached that mark in team history if anyone wants to give it a guess. The names are all pretty obvious.
But alas, his effort wasn't enough to stop the Mets from absorbing their 7th 1-0 loss of the season. Thankfully, the bats came alive again in Game 2 to ensure they remained in 1st place.

Please note:
We're looking for your comments about this specific
game. We've had people use this space to share their thoughts on how the
current season is going, or on ways that the Mets can improve the team.
Such comments, unless in the context of
this particular game,
will be considered off-topic and will be removed.
Example One
The Mets suck! They need to trade Smith and get somebody like
Jones.
This comment is off-topic and will be removed. It has nothing to do with
any specific game. But here's an acceptable alternative:
Example Two
The Mets suck! Smith made three errors in this game, and hit into a
double play, and the Mets blew a 5-0 lead. They need to get rid of Smith
and get somebody like Jones.
See the difference? Here you're getting the same point across, but it's in
the proper context. We wouldn't consider this message to be off-topic, and
we would let it remain.
We do appreciate anybody who takes the time to share their thoughts on our
site, and we hate to remove anybody's postings. But if we didn't take
steps to ensure that only on-topic messages were retained, The Ultimate
Mets Database would become a confusing jumble of unrelated comments,
and would thus be less enjoyable to visitors like you.
Thank you!
