I just want to say that I have never cried with so much happiness as I did tonight in the 20-year celebration. It brought back so much emotions for me from 1986 to see Lenny, Wally, El Sid, Bobby O, Timmy Teufel, Darryl, Ed Hearn, Jesse Orosco, etc. It is just a shame that the other players couldn't be there. And to top it off the Mets pull out a comeback just like the '86 club would have done. Now all that is left is for this team to make this season just as magical and memorable as 1986!

I've been going to Mets games since 1975 (I'll be 40 in December) and I've been to 4 home openers, 2 playoff games (both in '99), Tom Seaver Day in '88, 1 game vs the Bronx Evils (July 9, 1999), met "Mad Dog" Chris Russo, saw Bob Apodaca get hit in the face with a line drive, Doc's 20th win in '85, but being there on August 19th, 2006 for the '86 Celebration has to top them all!
How ironic that it rained during the ceremony since the '86 Mets got rained out at least 7 or 8 times that year.
I just wished that Doc, Davey, and Ray Knight were there; shame on you WS MVP, you can speak to a bunch of Professor Frink wannabees any night of the year even on Christmas.
Even the '06 Mets got into the spirit by wearing the '86 racing stripe home unis!
But the topping on the cake was when the PA system played the greatest novelty song ever: Jump In The Saddle's "The Curly Shuffle", an ode to the 3 Stooges before the bottom of the 6th, With the Amazins down 4-0, that great song had to jump start them because they tagged the poor Rockies for 6 runs and then added extra spice when Lastings Milledge hit a homer in the 8th and then Billy Wagner put the "Sandman" on Colorado with a 1-2-3 inning! And somewhere Bob Murphy was giving a happy recap up in the great 1050 WHN booth in the sky!

We got to the park at about 3:00. We saw all the 86 Mets players walking just 6 feet away from me into the entrance of Shea. Then in the 6th the Mets staged an 86 Mets like comeback. It was great!

The second of the Mets/Colorado games with Mindy found us without baseball cards. Prior to the game, the Mets gave out 1986 commemorative baseball card packs to the first 25,000 people. Unfortunately, we didn't get any when we arrived.
Despite this disappointment, it was great to see the '86 Mets. Mindy liked how Darryl was "styling" in his white getup, while I thought it was cool that Rafael Santana had on a nice shirt and tie underneath his jersey.
The inning when the Mets scored six runs was the only time I lost my temper throughout the entire series. My target was Paul LoDuca, because I felt he could have easily scored from second base on the Matt Holliday error. That point was immediately rendered moot as the Mets made like the baseball conga line from one of those Bugs Bunny cartoons with a combination of hits and walks. Throughout the rally, I kept reminding Mindy how "a well-placed hit would plate (one or two runs) depending on the on-base situation. Mindy couldn't wait for me to shut up (lol)!
There is a happy recap to this game. I did get the cards for myself and Mindy courtesy of the internet. The things I do to make people happy!

I took my two boys to their FIRST ever baseball game this night! A night that all of us will ALWAYS remember. My oldest son Thomas was 5 and my youngest Mark Jr was 4. We got to see the 86 Mets anniversary. A man jumped out of a plane with a parachute onto the field (not Michael Sergio) and they couldn't believe it!
Mark fell asleep on me before the game started and it also rained. When they walked through the tunnel to see their first MLB field I took a video of them. Then someone asked if I wanted a picture and they took a photo of us - it is one of my most wonderful memories.
Five year old Thomas carried my heavy bag to the car as I carried Mark when we left. My little man walking and talking to me about the game at just 5 years old! AWESOME!!
