METS FANS SHARE THEIR MEMORIES OF THE AUGUST 11, 2007 GAME:
Gets by Buckner

A friend of mine took me to the game and things looked great once David Wright hit 2 home runs. However, Mota and Heilman gave it up quickly and we left in the bottom of the 8th. It was a great night for baseball weather-wise but sad to see a Met loss.

Sat in Upper Deck Section 22 on a fantastic evening with my sis, her b-f, my nephew and our friend Kathy. Before the game, a young woman sitting behind us got hit in the back of the head by an errant popcorn vendor's tray and the EMT's checked her out but she was A-OKAY. It should've been a Mets win but the "bull"-pen blew it.

I was at this game, in the right field mezzanine at good ol' Shea. This game was very much a microcosm of the 2007 season. Spirits were high at first- Glavine was pitching at Shea for the first time since winning his 300th game, and Wright hit two homers. (I called one of them, which had me really excited.)
Then with a big lead, Glavine had to give it up to the bullpen early, and Guillermo Mota was horrible that night. We booed him relentlessly as the lead collapsed. I haven't checked the box score, but I think all the relievers were bad that night. (I'm sure Heilman must have pitched.) They never gave the offense a chance to come back, and we all left surly and disappointed.

I was with my family across from the UK on holiday that August. We were staying in CT and drove into the game in heavy traffic missing the start. The kids got #5 David Wright bags on entry which they still use at school today! The guys sat in front were really friendly, they explained the nuances of the game and my biggest regret (other than the Mets loss) was missing saying goodbye to them. The Wright homers were thrilling - I caught one on camera and need to get it up on flickr some time - the breaks between innings were enjoyed by the wife and kids and all in all it was a brilliant experience. I've followed the Mets ever since and can't wait to get back to NY and go to Citi Field. Shea has a fond place in my memories.
Now it's your turn! Tell us what you remember of this game:
Please note:
We're looking for your comments about this specific
game. We've had people use this space to share their thoughts on how the
current season is going, or on ways that the Mets can improve the team.
Such comments, unless in the context of
this particular game,
will be considered off-topic and will be removed.
Example One
The Mets suck! They need to trade Smith and get somebody like
Jones.
This comment is off-topic and will be removed. It has nothing to do with
any specific game. But here's an acceptable alternative:
Example Two
The Mets suck! Smith made three errors in this game, and hit into a
double play, and the Mets blew a 5-0 lead. They need to get rid of Smith
and get somebody like Jones.
See the difference? Here you're getting the same point across, but it's in
the proper context. We wouldn't consider this message to be off-topic, and
we would let it remain.
We do appreciate anybody who takes the time to share their thoughts on our
site, and we hate to remove anybody's postings. But if we didn't take
steps to ensure that only on-topic messages were retained, The Ultimate
Mets Database would become a confusing jumble of unrelated comments,
and would thus be less enjoyable to visitors like you.
Thank you!
