The Mets are not scared of harpo the big crybaby. The Nats are a bunch of whiny crybabies. Grow up. The Mets are for real.

As I recall, the weak performance by the Mets offense in this game led radio announcer Josh Lewin to label it "a real Stinko-de-Mayo."

Not a memorable game except that Jose Reyes
doubled for his 1,500th hit as a Met. Surprised
that there was no mention of it by Gary Cohen or
Ron Darling on TV. Would have thought it would be
in the press notes.

Some of the memories of this game, when the Yankee starter came out of the bullpen before the game, they forgot to close the bullpen door, and wouldn't you know it, the first batter of the game hits the ball right through the open door for a ground rule double. The Mets exploded for 3 runs in the first inning, hoping for a laugher, turns out that was all offense the Mets would muster for the evening. Matz was pitching a strong game, aside from a second inning homer, was strolling along, until the sixth when he gave up the tying homer, then in the eighth Judge hits a homer to pull ahead and that was it.

Brandon Nimmo hit two home runs in this game, one of which was inside the park. The homers gave Nimmo a total of eighteen as a Met. Therefore, he set a new team mark for round-trippers by a player whose last name begins with the letter N. The previous record holder was Kirk Nieuwenhuis with 17.

This was one game in which the Mets actually benefited by losing a replay challenge. Leading off the bottom of the tenth inning, Wilmer Flores claimed to have been hit by a pitch, but it wasn't ruled as such. The umpires checked the TV monitor and didn't pick it up, so the original call stood. Flores followed up by knocking out a game-winning home run. It was Wilmer's tenth walk-off RBI as a Met, breaking David Wright's team record.

I know this game is not worth writing about, but I'll do it anyway. It was among the most horrifying experiences the Mets and their fans have ever had to endure. The Nationals got seven runs in the first inning, three of which came in on a double by their starting pitcher. They scored three more times in each of the next four innings to increase their lead to 19-0. The Washington line on the scoreboard looked more like one for a football team that had kicked a winning field goal in overtime!
Things were so disastrous for the Mets that Jose Reyes came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth. Reyes was no savior as the Nats tagged him for a pair of homers and scored another six runs. It was a night that every Mets fan had a good excuse for going to bed early.

This was a poor excuse for a ball game. The Nationals piled up nineteen runs in five innings while the Mets didn't do a darn thing at bat. If there had been any kind of mercy rule applied, the game would've been stopped early with a "no contest" win declared for the Nats. Major League Baseball has no such policy, though.
There were things about this fiasco that were similar to another Mets defeat at Washington on April 30th the previous year. In addition to both games being played on the last day of a month, each one featured a non-pitcher taking the mound for the Mets in the bottom of the eighth inning. Just like Kevin Plawecki did in the '17 game, Jose Reyes pitched the eighth in this one and gave up some homers that added to the misery. Also, the Nationals had 19 total runs entering the inning each time and broke the 20-mark against both Plawecki and Reyes. It was a very eerie case of deja vu for the Mets.

This was the Mets' highest scoring game ever and it wasn't even shown on live local television. The game was a makeup of a rainout from earlier in the year that served as a doubleheader opener and got ignored by SNY. Live action
of this 24-run outburst came only to those who logged on to social media, while the station that should have televised it just lolled around and waited for the second game to start. Hey, SNY! You really missed out on a true Mets
classic!

The Mets set a new team record for runs in one game in this doubleheader opener at Philadelphia. Their previous high-scoring mark was in a 23-10 win over the Cubs on the same date thirty-one years earlier. The 20-run difference over the Phillies here was the largest margin of victory in Mets history. It also came sixteen days after a loss by 21 runs at Washington for the team's most lopsided defeat ever.
I echo Scoey's words about this game being aired on social media instead of an actual television station that covers the Mets. A lot of video highlights were lost because of this.

Yesterday was the first time the Mets have ever hit back to back HRs to walkoff the game. In front of a crowd that had approximately 8 people in the
stands (Citi was empty) Conforto and Frazier went deep twice off Kyle Barraclough, who seems to lose control every time he faces the Mets. On a side
note, this was also one of the worst days in Mets history, as our captain announced his inevitable retirement.

This was the game that basically sealed the Cy Young Award for Jacob deGrom. He fanned ten batters in eight scoreless innings for a well-earned win. Fittingly, Jacob finished things off with his 1,000th career strikeout on his
last pitch of the season.

So thankful this turned out to be the game where the the Captain David Wright took his first turn at-bat in over two years. Got the whole thing on video. It may have been a first pitch ground out, but still awesome! THANK YOU CAPTAIN! Sorry about the time I almost hit you with the ball I threw over the parking lot fence in March 2007 at spring training.

This was the specifically designated D-Wright retirement game. If the Wilpons' plan was to sell out the game, it worked. The crowd was, without a doubt, the largest I had ever been a part of. During warmups, David and Jose were running around with each other and the place was going nuts. It was the end of an era for the Mets, this was going to be an emotional night.
David's daughter Olivia Shea threw out the first pitch (it wasn't half bad) and he took one final run, leading the team out the dugout, to his property at third base.
He walked in his first at-bat, fielded a grounder showing flashes of vintage Wright, and unfortunately popped out in his last at-bat. Marlins first baseman Peter O'Brien probably could have let it drop, and the crowd let him hear it the whole night. After that, it was over. He walked off the field for one last time, to an ovation that seemed to never end. We can't all have good endings, but I'm sure if you asked David he couldn't have been happier.
The game droned on, Citi still full because he was making a speech afterward. It was a meaningless game against the Marlins, of all teams, but the crowd treated it like a playoff game. It started to get restless, in the 11th or 12th there was actually a fight near my section. If Austin Jackson hadn't doubled to end it, who knows how long the game would've been.
Howie Rose and Wright combined together to make an excellent final sendoff, and his speech to the fans was heartfelt. Everyone was sad to see David go, but we couldn't have asked for anything more from him.
