I don't think many Mets fans realize there was a Chip Ambres redux in 2009, with the outfielder returning to their Triple A club (now in Buffalo) about halfway through the year. It was another solid showing, as he had nine dingers and 40 RBI in 80 games. I got an in-person autograph from him when he played against the Rochester Red Wings that year.

I shouldn't be so snide—some people just don't like to be bothered. I don't even answer my cell phone unless I recognize the number.

Ambres had three at-bats with the Mets in 2007, one in each of three straight games against the Dodgers. Two of the at-bats came against pitcher D.J. Houlton, who I can't say I've ever even heard of, or at least remember. In his first at-bat against Houlton, he struck out. In his second AB against him—and his last as a Met—he had a game winning RBI in the top of the 10th inning. Not a bad way to go out. He was followed in the lineup that evening by another Mets fly-by-nighter, Sandy Alomar, Jr.
