Mejia had a decent 2014 season closing, but it looks like this might be the end of him as a Met. Hope he gets himself together in the future.

I also remember his one year as a closer in 2014. When you're faced with an awful team, you look for anything that resembles a bright spot, so I look back on Mejia's tenure as closer without any real criticism or critique, even though in retrospect he wasn't that great. He had a 3.65 ERA, averaged more than a hit allowed per inning, walked a lot of batters. It's probably largely because he started off so poorly, but did very well as the year progressed. Through June 7 and his first 20 games, he had a 4.68 ERA. From that point on, he had a 2.47 ERA in 43 games.

It's kind of crazy just how unpersoned he's been in Mets history. He was a huge prospect and the primary closer for a year, but it's already ... Mejia who?

That's what being banned for life for steroid infractions will do to you. And speaking of those, I don't recall being particularly shocked by them. It was more along the lines of ... "sounds about right."

Well, after he was banned forever and in perpetuity, he was reinstated from his lifetime ban after two years and signed with the Red Sox. When he was in their system, I sent him an autograph request, but he never responded.

He's actually still playing in Mexico. He's been in the Mexican League since 2021.
