HERE IS WHAT OTHER METS FANS HAVE TO SAY:

Hot Foot
May 15, 2023
Wow. 'Joey Fuego' has been DFA'd with the exit velocity of a 0.00 ERA guy. All he did was fill in as a serviceable left-handed starter, pitching to a 4.43 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 20.1 innings. Granted, after his first great start (game score of 76) in San Francisco, he has been decidedly average, but still serviceable.

Now, the way Howie described it during the broadcast, it sounded like Lucchesi was gone, but I just frantically looked up the news online, and it looks like he has options, so he will not have to clear waivers. According to Fangraphs he has two MiLB options left.

IF he had to clear waivers, this would have been a colossally stupid move on the part of Billy Eppler, because any GM with a functioning brain stem would pick this guy up off of waivers to be a swingman.

Remember the days of Joely Rodriguez? The Mets need lefties in the pen and 'Fuego' could be the answer. Also, I'm getting a little tired of all these roster moves. This Mets roster salad is reminding me of how I ran my fantasy baseball team (and why I had to fire myself and retire from fantasy baseball).

One bright side of him being demoted (I hope temporarily) is that I won't have to hear Keith Raad saying the word "churve" anymore. In his start in SF, I had to listen to the Giants broadcast until Lucchesi came out of the game because that word was annoying me so much. Not only is the word annoying, it's doubly annoying how Lucchesi and his minions have given the slow curve his own cute name, as if he invented it.

Regardless, I hope Fuego will be back soon. This guy should not be in the minors.
