I'm not hopeful about Baez. He struggled last year and with the Cubs before being traded this year, and he doesn't fit the profile of someone who is going to have extended success in the majors. He strikes out too much, doesn't walk enough, and though he has good power, it's not so great that it'll keep him viable once his relatively limited offensive skillset starts to crumble.

We gave up a first round draft pick for this guy. It might not end up being Kazmir-for-Zambrano, but it could be close.

If he does, I predict he'll be another Cespedes. Wayne Randazzo mentioned in last night's broadcast that through their first 137 plate appearances for the Mets, their numbers are remarkably similar. So I looked it up and he's right. Through their first 139 plate appearances playing for the Mets, Baez has 9 homers and 19 RBI and Cespedes had 10 homers and 26 RBI.

Baez actually has a higher batting average than Cespedes and better numbers overall except home runs and RBI. Quite shocking, since I see Baez as a strikeout machine who is good at sliding.

Therefore I predict that if Baez signs with the Mets to a monster contract, he will have one or two good years before getting injured riding a motorcycle or twerking too hard at a party and missing a year before coming back as a shell of his former self. Just another "me first" crybaby.

One thing is hugely different from Baez's and Cespedes' first 139 plate appearances for the Mets: After the Rally Parakeet sparked him, Cespedes seemed to lead the Mets straight to the playoffs with his energy. He was la Potencia. There was no stopping him.

This guy on the other hand, in spite of his numbers, is the opposite of la Potencia. He is la Debilidad. His thumbs down antics caused me to tune out the Mets for a good 10 days, and now I'm rooting against them because I want the manager to get fired and this meathead to go.

Not to be completely negative on this beautiful morning, I will say this: at least Lindor and Wayne Randazzo like him. So at least two people will be happy if he signs with the Mets.

But was his acquisition, and the loss of first rounder Pete Crow-Armstrong, worth it? He was brought on board to help save the Mets 2021 season, and they ended up going 77-85. We might have to wait a few years to see what Crow-Armstrong does before we can get a gauge on the total value of the deal.

But still, I'm somewhat relieved New York didn't bring him back. His attitude was just so bad.
