Share your memories of Richard Webster HERE IS WHAT OTHER METS FANS HAVE TO SAY: Mrs. Spunky August 28, 2008 Rich was a good pitcher who died in a tragic drowning accident after the 1982 season. I think about him often and wonder what could have been... Susie Webster Bain September 21, 2010 I am Richard's younger sister. Baseball was his dream and I am so thankful that he was able to live a part of his dream before he died. I know in my heart that he had a great baseball career ahead of him. He not only was a great baseball player but a fantastic brother and son. We miss you Richard! Robert Gilles September 29, 2011 I played with Rich in Lynchburg in 1982. He was one of the nicest/classiest guys on the team. It was a tie between him and Jay Tibbs who threw the hardest and had a nasty 6/12 curve. Since I caught him in many of the earlier games of the season my fondest memory of his is the bone bruise I used to get catching him. His pitches seemed to just dig into your mitt. I never really got the chance to say goodbye. God Bless you Rich. Jenny Rogers Lewelling November 2, 2021 Richard was my first boyfriend all through elementary school at Sherwood. I still have several special Valentine cards he gave me. I changed schools at the beginning of 8th grade (think he did too) and lost touch with him until college. I went to all the Memphis State home games. I loved watching him play. Then, watching him pitch for the Mets was awesome. Different memories have come to mind over the years. Thinking of him tonight watching the World Series. I was of course, so sad to hear of his accident along with Chip. I know you are missed by so many!
