I was afraid of Larry at first because he was older than I and he was from the north and always made fun of my southern accent! At Quincy, Ill., a class A team in the Mid-West League. As a team we became great friends. Larry was so funny! Everyone laughed when he would say anything! Larry played third base. There was a fan that always gave Larry a hard time and this fan was sitting right behind first base so when Larry caught a ground ball, he threw the baseball over the first baseman’s head and hit the fan in the stands! Another time l remember Larry went to bat. The pitcher threw him a fastball right down the middle. Larry took it! The pitcher threw him 2 more fastballs down the middle for strike 3! We all asked Larry, why did you not swing? He said, “Nobody throws McNulty 3 fastballs in a row! Nobody!”
