This guy has a weird story that's hard to piece together. A talented pitching prospect who started out in the Mets system in 1987, Vasquez eventually was named the 92nd top prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America by the end of 1991. The following year, however, there are conflicting reports as to what happened to him. This website says he was traded with Julio Valera to the Angels for Dick Schofield at the beginning of the 1992 season, but he was most likely a player to be named later as he still spent the whole year in the Mets system at AA Binghamton and AAA Tidewater. However, baseball reference says he was instead traded to the Mets with Schofield for Valera, which makes absolutely no sense at all, so baseball reference must be wrong.
Even more bizarre, he never threw another pitch in either the minors or majors following the trade. Not sure if he got hurt, quit the game, got into legal trouble, or what. He eventually resurfaced in 1998 pitching for the Brother Elephants in China, where he was teammates with Edgardo Alfonzo's brother (also named Ed) as well as fellow former Mets farmhand Pat Howell. He disappeared again until 2001 when he pitched for the Somerset Patriots of the independent Atlantic League, where he went 4-1 with a 3.33 ERA over 30 games, but was never heard from again. I can't help but wonder what happened to this guy.

Just learned this guy had a 0.28 ERA with St. Lucie in 1991. 56 games, 25 saves, 2 earned runs in 64 innings. That's incredible. How many people in professional baseball have ever had an ERA that low with that many innings pitched in a season? Can't be too many.
