Just to show how much times have changed: Bill Greif, owner of the 31 - 67 4.41 lifetime record has one less career shutout than Johan Santana (5 to 6) and 9 more complete games (18 to 9). Crazy, right?
It's all too bad. I really miss watching starters go the distance. And it irks me to no end to watch some "set up man" come in and blow the game. Complete Games and Shutouts used to be a major pitching stat that mattered when deciding the Cy Young Award winner. No more. Sad.
