My dad played ball with him as a kid in Brooklyn. He always remembered him fondly. My dad was 2 years older and he managed the team. I believe they were called the Kroy Wens for New York spelled in reverse!

Tommy set a modern National League record with a 37-game hitting streak in 1945. Thirty-three years later, that mark was tied and then broken by Pete Rose in a pair of games at Shea Stadium. Being an employee of the Mets at the time, Tommy was on hand to have his picture taken with Rose as he matched and then surpassed his record. A real class act that was great to see.
