The article here counters an assumption I had about Tom Seaver's time in Alaska. I thought that he went there when his career was in limbo after his contract with the Braves had been voided. I didn't realize that Seaver had pitched for the Goldpanners for two summers amid military duties before that happened.

My favorite part of this story is when Tom arrives at the Fairbanks ballpark just in time to warm up in the bullpen. He gets called in as a reliever and meets his teammates for the first time right on the field during the game. What an introduction that must have been!
