Mets Land Foy to Play 3d, Send Otis, Johnson to KC
New York Daily News
Thursday, December 4, 1969

One of the Mets earliest regrettable trades was the one that sent Amos Otis to the Royals for Joe Foy. Otis would go on to play 14 seasons in Kansas City, winning three Gold Gloves and making five All-Star teams. Foy was... less successful.

Mets Know-It-All

This article on the Amos Otis trade for Joy Foy is displayed in a contradictory way. Right next to it there is an advertisement that identifies Otis as a Mets third baseman. It's made to look like the kind of thing that Jay Leno could have used in his old 'Headlines' segment on The Tonight Show.

I saw this and wondered how the Daily News could possibly show Amos as a Met just beside the story of his trade to the Royals. It turns out that the newspaper didn't do any such thing. A sketch drawn by cartoonist Bill Gallo was really placed in that spot. The ad with the picture of Otis is covering up Gallo's illustration.
