Classic pictures of Tim Harkness and Casey Stengel are right above this 1963 article. I remember the Harkness photo from the Shea Stadium Dedication magazine that came out a year later. It shows a somewhat common scene for that time. People are on the outfield grass looking up at Tim on the steps leading to the Mets' clubhouse after his game-winning grand slam. At the Polo Grounds, there were exits at field level that fans were permitted to use (after the game was over, of course) which ballparks don't have anymore. The folks here were paying tribute to Harkness on their way out. Also, the teams' locker rooms were located beyond the center field wall at the old Coogan's Bluff place. They weren't just beneath the dugouts like all baseball venues have today. The players and coaches had a long walk to and from the bench areas.

The picture of Stengel is classic in the sense that - well, his face expresses the look of any manager whose team was on its way to 111 losses for the season.
