After the 1994 strike, I more or less tuned out of baseball forĀ a few years, save for my baseball card obsession. Yet, the McGwire-Sosa home run chase got me interested in watching games again, the Piazza trade got me interested in the Mets again, and this game, Game 5 of the NLCS, saw my rebirth as a Mets fan. I felt the magic again.

This game will always be a special memory for me because I watched it on edge, a feeling I hadn't felt since 1988. In my book, the "Shawon Dunston at bat" was just as pivotal as Ventura's blast.

By the way, the "Ventura highway" reference is interesting because the Ventura Freeway is a real thing; it's the 101 Freeway in LA that goes through the San Fernando Valley.
