Jim Hickman Takes the Bat Off His Shoulder 3 Times
Newsday
Saturday, September 4, 1965

Jim Hickman becomes the first Met to hit three home runs in a game. Newsday's coverage is rather snarky.

I vividly recall watching this game on TV from my living room. I pleaded with Mom to let me stay up past bedtime to watch Hickman come to the plate in the 4th inning, and then begged some more to let me watch him hit in the 8th, hoping he'd clout his fourth of the game, placing him in that pantheon of sluggers who've hit four in one game. But no luck. Thanks for sharing this with us.
