This trade for Lenny Randle was a prime example of the depths to which the Mets had sunk in the later part of the 1970s. If the organization just had a better minor league system that produced quality players, there would have been no need to bring in someone who had charges pending against him after slugging the manager of his previous team. It shows what kind of job the Mets' management was doing at the time.
