As if Horace Stoneham didn't have enough people who hated him, he first tried to bully the Mets into playing ("We have 30,000 tickets sold and it's Bat day. The game starts at 1:00 PM" [PT].) Then offers a limp apology to all the young fans whose plans had to be rearranged. Stoneham took the money and fled to San Francisco, and he sure as hell wasn't going to let one of the greatest national tragedies in American history get in the way of a big crowd. Stoneham was an unprincipled drunk.
