Ex-Mets catcher Hodges dies

Obituary of Ron Hodges, who spent 12 seasons with the Mets, primarily as a backup catcher. His rookie season featured a trip to the World Series as a member of the 1973 Mets.

I saw Hodges play in the '70s. He was a good defensive catcher. Not much of a hitter but neither were Grote or Dyer. The Mets didn't have a really good hitting catcher until John Stearns came along. Ron Hodges was a solid, dependable backup. Mets fans will always remember #42.
