METS FANS SHARE THEIR MEMORIES OF THE JULY 24, 1971 GAME:

This was the first game I ever attended - I was 9 years old. I seem to remember that the Mets scored 3 runs apiece in the first three innings. The Astros scored three in either the 3rd or the 4th, and that was the end of the scoring for the day. My only other memory was of Cleon Jones leaping above the fence to rob one of the Astro hitters (can't remember who) of a home run.

To clarify an earlier post on this game, the Mets scored three in the first and three more in the second to take an early 6-0 lead. Bill Greif started for the Astros, and left without retiring a batter (two singles and two walks) in his second major league start. Houston got to within 6-3 with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, but the Mets scored three more times for the 9-3 win. Cleon Jones had a big day, going 3-for-4 plus a walk with five RBIs. He drove in two in the first with a single, two more in the second with a double, and then had another double in the sixth to drive in the final run of the game.
