This game sucked. Plain and simple. I had the poor fortune of attending this game. Never mind the fact that it was 95 degrees out, humid and absolutely miserable all evening. The Astros basically did everything they could to hand this game over to the Mets, and the Mets just refused. Backe started for the Astros and walked 6. 6 WALKS! And the Mets squandered each and every opportunity. Bases loaded in the 2nd. Men on in the 3rd. More in the 4th and 5th. 2 on in the 8th. And so it went. One run in the first. Lots of men left stranded over the rest of the game.Zambrano did his best, it was 1-1 into the 6th, he got a key DP, looked like he was going to get out of it...And then he turned back into Victor Zambrano and gave up an RBI single to Ensberg, followed by a long RBI 2B by Lane, and that was it. He didn't get the key out, and it turned into another one of those Victor Zambrano Innings that we all have come to know and love. My friend thought we might have a chance in the 9th. Then they announced Lidge into the game. He turned to me and said, "Oh, right. I forgot. The Astros have a real closer." 1-2-3 and an end to a perfectly miserable game.
