METS FANS SHARE THEIR MEMORIES OF THE MAY 8, 2021 GAME:

Hot Foot
May 21, 2021
This is the "Ratcoon" game because in the 7th inning, something happened in the Mets clubhouse. Conforto and Dom Smith raced into the dugout and disappeared into the tunnel. It alarmed Wayne Randazzo who was doing the play by play. Jeff McNeil came up to the plate that inning and made an out, and then Wayne mentioned how he ran right into the tunnel after making the out. Lindor came up that inning and hit a home run, then "took a long trot around the bases" according to Howie.

It was all a big mystery during the game but Howie and Wayne were speculating that McNeil's face was puffy as if he had been roughed up, and they explained it by Lindor and McNeil getting in each other's ways on ground balls in their direction, resulting in busted plays and apparent frustration. So after the game, I was on edge waiting for the press conference during the postgame show and Lindor explained it by saying he saw a rat in the tunnel. And a reporter asked him it looked like he was mad at McNeil, and Lindor said he was mad at McNeil because McNeil said it was a raccoon and not a rat and McNeil was mad at him doubting it was a raccoon, more or less. While explaining this, he sounded like a 7 year old explaining why his little brother had a black eye, talking about a rat. As an aside, if Lindor can't hit for Mets, at least he can create entertaining stories.

Anyway, in the next game, McNeil hit a homer. During the postgame press conference Lindor came out and hugged McNeil and told everyone it was a "ratcoon", hence the "ratcoon game".

We're looking for your comments about this specific game. We've had people use this space to share their thoughts on how the current season is going, or on ways that the Mets can improve the team. Such comments, unless in the context of this particular game, will be considered off-topic and will be removed.

Example One
The Mets suck! They need to trade Smith and get somebody like Jones.
This comment is off-topic and will be removed. It has nothing to do with any specific game. But here's an acceptable alternative:

Example Two
The Mets suck! Smith made three errors in this game, and hit into a double play, and the Mets blew a 5-0 lead. They need to get rid of Smith and get somebody like Jones.
See the difference? Here you're getting the same point across, but it's in the proper context. We wouldn't consider this message to be off-topic, and we would let it remain.

We do appreciate anybody who takes the time to share their thoughts on our site, and we hate to remove anybody's postings. But if we didn't take steps to ensure that only on-topic messages were retained, The Ultimate Mets Database would become a confusing jumble of unrelated comments, and would thus be less enjoyable to visitors like you.

Thank you!
