Johhnyd I remember a a youth of 9 in '72, Bob Murphy called him "big" Bob Rauch and of course, touted him as the next Koufax. True to Met folklore, he blew the game. It is now 2000, and Murph is now telling me about Joe McEwing. Nothing has changed.
January 28, 2003 I never liked Yogi as a manager. He put Rauch in in a tie game in the ninth inning in Montreal in '72. He walked four consecutive batters in the bottom of the ninth to walk in the winning run! What an inglorious moment!
May 30, 2003 Rauch was another in a long procession of players the Mets acquired from the Dodger farm system. Will Hunter, Tim Harkness, Darrell Griffith, Larry Burright and Bill Sudakis and not one of them amounted to anything.
November 4, 2006 Two things are forever burned into my memory about this guy--his name, which is eerily (and appropriately) close in spelling to 'raunch' and that he is one of the ugliest guys to ever play for the Mets (his photo in the '72 yearbook could stop a clock).
