March 17, 2001 I thought he was traded for EL Sid. If correct, probably the only trade in history involving two Hawaiians.
December 14, 2001 I used to like this guy because of his name. I went to a game one time with this guy who was a total drunk. When Carlos came in the game the guy yelled, "Do it up- Diaz." I almost wet my pants. After that, I couldn't wait to see the guy in a game.
June 7, 2002 Remember that he had real decent stuff. Real tough on lefties. Tommy Lasorda really wanted him down the stretch of '83(I think) season. The deal could not get done. So at the following winter meetings the Dodgers approached the Mets and Frank Cashen held out until the Dodgers parted with El Sid (who I believe was the Pacific Coast League pitcher of the year) Good job by Cashen!
September 12, 2004 His greatest achievement as a New York Met was to bring us the "big Pineapple," Sid Fernandez.
October 13, 2005 I remember that Carlos had a very good curve, and a fastball that said "C'mon, big boy. Hit me off the left center-field wall for a two-run double."
December 6, 2006 Not a bad pitcher with good stuff. Already a jaded fan at a young age, I was certain that the Dodgers had pulled a fast one on us when they stole Diaz for an over-hyped Syd Fernandez. I guess I was wrong, although maybe if Diaz had stayed... My lasting memory is being at Shea sometime in '82 at a sparsely attended game listening to this old Hispanic guy in the seat next to me perseverate.. Bamb-BEER-ger... Bam-BEER-ger.. CArlos Diaz... for nine innings.
July 22, 2008 Cool dude. I tripped out when I met him and found out that he's one of my supervisors at work.
