Steve Joe Sambito was one of two Mets pitchers to allow 10 runs in that famous 26-7 loss to the Phillies (the other was our old friend Calvin Schiraldi).
May 29, 2001 Sambito was a hell of a lefthanded reliever with the Astros in the late '70s. Mets got him after he attempted to come back from an arm injury. He was done.
October 8, 2001 What a hottie! He was a great pitcher for the Astros til he blew out his arm.
I used to work for the Durham Bulls, and one day one of our players asked me to leave a ticket for his agent, but didn't tell me the agent's name. That afternoon, this gorgeos, semi-familiar looking guy came in asking for me, and it was JOE SAMBITO!!! Still a hottie, and now a player agent. Very nice guy too. I think I was able to formulate words in conversation with him, but I'm not completely

May 27, 2003 In Keith Hernandez's book "If At First" which he wrote as a diary of the 1985 season he talked about how sad it was to watch this guy's career go down the tubes right in front of him. Oh Keithy. Little did you know he would be part of the 1986 Red Sox World Series mess!
June 28, 2006 Besides being a dependable relief pitcher, his other claim to fame was he saw ex-teammate Mark Lemongello and another ex-pitcher, Manny Seaone kidnap his 2 cousins at gunpoint (one of them happened to be 70's lounge singer Peter) at gunpoint while Peter and another cousin were working on Joe's house back in January 1982 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
October 29, 2010 I am Joe's cousin from S. Philly. I am 2 years older than Joe. He used to visit us occasionally, and he could never get me. I owned him. He credits me with making him the pitcher he became. I would still own him if we matched up. He owned Joe Morgan, but couldn't figure me out!
