Everyone seemed to like this guy last year and he pitched fairly well. The Mets did not resign him in the off season and now I have no idea what happened to him. Did he go to Japan? Where the hell is Jose Parra?

Mr.Sparkle, yes he did go to Japan - actually returned to Japan after pitching for the Yomiuri Giants in 1999. Jose is now pitching for the Orix Buffaloes starting from this year - he is 4-2 with 4.18 ERA as we speak, and is pitching better than the ERA indicates. Unfortunately he is skipping starts every now and then, due to arm troubles. Also, the Buffaloes have another ex-Met, Karim Garcia, who also joined the club this year. Karim is not faring well as Jose is.

Parra was our eighth inning setup man for about one weekend (the weekend the Yanks were at Shea in 2004) before getting hurt. Then he broke his finger finishing up his rehab assignment.

Returning to Mets camp in 2006 after a year in Japan, he blew out his elbow.

Sad to hear Jose Parra's arm went. He really was a good player. I remember his first appearance during the regular season in a Met uniform. He hurled a shutout inning against the Detroit Tigers. I have a picture of him throwing his first pitch for the Mets. I think it was to Bobby Higginson, but not sure. I was surprised at how good his fastball was for a supposedly "washed up" player.
