From a non-roster invitee to the Spring Camp in 2007 to making the big club and pitching against Albert Pujols and the "World Champs" on Opening Night... where did this kid come from? Call him "Smitty" or "Submarine Smith"?

Right now he's the second best guy out of the pen after Wagner. It's amazing that he only spent one year in the minors and never pitched in AAA. He was a second round draft pick so they expected him to be good but maybe not as quickly as he has. He has a lot of confidence and does not get rattled. He is good under pressure. The Mets did a great job drafting him, something that they are not great at.

I just hope he knows that he's awesome!!!! One day (believe me I know more about the Mets and the game in general more than any 11 year old in the world) that Joe Smith will be amazin (like the team he is on) I mean forget Wagner, get Joe Smith at Closer because he is better than him (I'm totally not saying Billy's bad) but Joe is awesome!!

I saw him at spring training 2007. It was exciting to see a young guy like him making it. You could tell that he knew he was going to make the team but he was playing it cool, respecting the boundaries of being a rookie. It would have been nice to see him grow here.

I remember him praising the ice cream at the Brooklyn Cyclones ballpark in an SNY commercial.
