Not a bad fourth outfielder liked the way he played the game I felt the Mets should've brought him back, at the present moment I like him better than Carlos Gomez or Aaron Altherr.

Nori Aoki is so unmemorable as a New Yorker that he is still not out of the bottom 100 most-popular Mets on this website, despite him having since 2017 to move up in the rankings.
He was one of those guys that made me wonder why they signed him. Well, it was because their outfield was weak at the time, but if they're going to go after a guy like Aoki in a season that's already lost, why not just start giving auditions to minor leaguers, to see what they do? They had this kid named Jayce Boyd who hit .296 at Triple A that year... he stayed at AAA, and never made the majors.
In retrospect, Aoki really was solid in his short time with New York (.284 BA, .371 OBP) and probably would have helped the bench in 2018. He did have a solid pedigree: Just a few years before, he stole 30 bases with the Brewers and was a consistent .280s BA and high .340s/.350s OBP guy for half a decade.
But what he ended up being, like so many players before him, was a once-very solid player who ended his career with a sputter in New York.

Nori Aoki signed an autograph through-the-mail for me in 53 days care of the Giants in 2015. It's always a pleasant surprise to get a well-known major leaguer through a team address these days. These past 10-15 years have been rough in that regard, guys just don't sign that much through their teams.
I was looking at Aoki's game logs and he was a monster early on with the Mets. He started his Mets career with an eight-game hitting streak (he'd already had a four-game hitting streak before going to NY, making it 12-straight) and through his first 78 at-bats with the club, his average was .321. I had no idea. That was one of the years I was more 'loosely' paying attention to the club.
He was one of those hidden gems the Mets had that came and went too quickly.
