Cameron Maybin, at one point a 10th overall draft pick and top prospect, is 0-for-21 to begin his Mets career.
2021 reminds me a lot of 2009, when everyone was getting hurt and a bunch of has-beens and never-wases were called upon to fill in.

Cameron ended up getting his first hit as a Met on May 29, 2021 after going 0 for 27: a nubber up the third-base line that stayed fair. The crowd at Citi Field gave him a standing ovation--which he thoroughly enjoyed!

This is how desperate the Mets were for warm bodies in 2021: In May of that year, Maybin was hitting .103 for the Cubs AAA affiliate. One-oh-three. The Cubs made him available to the Mets for "cash considerations" (which, per Wikipedia, was $1). The Mets pounced on the deal and promptly inserted him into the three-hole in the lineup. 28 AB's and one base hit later, he was outrighted to Syracuse and eventually retired.
Now carving out a nice career for himself as an announcer and analyst.
