HERE IS WHAT OTHER METS FANS HAVE TO SAY:

After watching the press conference announcing him as interim manager, Jerry seems to be an intelligent individual. I think this team needs someone with his kind of calming presence to right the ship, after months of distractions. I hope he does well as manger of this team and makes a strong run at the playoffs.

Well here we go.

Will this work? I don't know. Jerry Manuel won manager of the year for a reason, but he also got fired for a reason. I'm more of a fan of the quiet and wise managers like Manuel than the screaming type, but we shall have to see if he can inspire this team and turn this ship around.

Sorry to see Willie go, but I wish Jerry the best of luck and hopefully he is just what we need right now.

Of course if he's not I imagine the Mets might be placing a call to Japan soon and reacquainting themselves with Mr. Valentine.

He talks a good game. He talks a lot. Does he have what it takes? Time will tell. For better or worse, the complete opposite of Willie. I for one think we needed someone in the middle.

I didn’t want Willie to go in the middle of the season so I am not a big Manuel fan. Jerry is loose, he argues with the umps, he’s funny and he even lets the players grow facial hair. He constantly tells us what the Mets are going to do and even reminds us that the Mets are a second class team in NYC. But “Hey Jerry, what’s the story!” Time is running out. I am tired of hearing that we are only 3 games back, last year we were 7 games ahead!

Although he's a little flakey, I'm going to reserve judgement on his managing until his tenure is over.

I don't recall him being this offbeat when he managed the White Sox.

19-11 since taking over. Delgado, Perez, Reyes, Pelfrey playing at higher levels. Guess he is doing the job. Gotta love his persona.

Personally, Manuel is different but nothing spectacular. His record of 19-11 is that of a winning record, but again, nothing spectacular. Not sure he should re-signed in the off-season. Would rather see Ken Obkerfell become the new manager. He's energetic, communicates well with the team and knows the farm system. Guys will come up with that advantage and be able to come into the major leagues more comfortable. Rumor has it that Warthen and Manuel don't get along either.

I don't have a problem with bringing Jerry back. He managed well the second half but the damage that was already done the first half with Willie was just too much to overcome. If we had some help in the bullpen, Jerry wouldn't have to use 6 pitchers a night. Message to Omar: Go out and get some bullpen help then give Jerry a one year deal and see if he can bring a championship back to New York

Jerry Manuel has no clue on how to effectively run a ball club. He speaks in riddles to the press and his on-field decisions are questionable.

Ned Yost, anyone?

My goodness, it's the Herman Edwards of mlb!

As great as a job Manuel did in 2008 he has done an equally bad job in 2009. Clearly he does not like certain players and would or will not use them.

Last year Manuel said starting pitchers would be expected to pitch deep into games and throw complete games. This year he is pulling the starting pitchers as soon as they hit 100 pitches.

Mark my words, Jerry Manuel will win a World Series either this season (2010) or next (2011). Jerry will go on a spurt of making great moves and show how good he really is. You heard it here first!!

The back page of the July 26, 2010 New York Daily News said it all with R.A. Dickey enraged and poor Jerry looking like he would rather be tortured in a North Korean dungeon than be on the mound at Dodger Stadium. Let's face facts: Abe Lincoln had a better future when he went to see "Our American Cousin" in April of 1865. The Mets don't need the Pepperidge Farm guy as manager; they need a combination of Woody Hayes, Vince Lombardi and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the future.

Goodbye Jerry, you gave us hope when you took charge in '08 but the last two seasons exposed you for the fraud you are.

Bad manager, He was way too laid back; guys didn't hustle and just didn't think sometimes. I will miss his post-game laugh though.

Laughed a lot, even after tough losses. But with chaos emanating from all over the organization, the joke was on him.

I always felt he got a bad rap. Good fit for NY but didn't have the horses. Nowhere as bad as Howe and Bamburger.
