I never met or saw Wilbur play. My father told me that in the 1960's Wilbur was always mentioned in the Met's yearbook or program as an upcoming star. Year after year he was mentioned but he never made it to the big leagues. Back in the 1960s Met fans, who were part of the Metropolitan Party, would wear political buttons calling for Wilbur to be president. One of them was lifted from a Barry Goldwater quote "Extremism in defense of last place (liberty) is no vice---Huckle for president". In his honor I have purchased a fanway brick at Citi Field with the inscription "Wilbur Huckle For President". He would look a a lot better in the White House instead of that cowboy we have now. Go Wilbur!

Wilbur is my wife's first cousin. He lives in/near Cross Plains, Texas. After baseball, he became a middle school teacher in San Antonio. I must admit that he is one of the finest people I have ever met.
