I was browsing through an old Sporting News Baseball Guide (1969 edition), and saw Michael McCready listed in the obituaries. The notice says he died at the age of 19 in a car accident on October 28, 1968 in Torrance,CA. Since there was no personal information on his page, I thought perhaps this fact was not known.

Mike McCready was in a car accident in 1968. He passed away at the hospital a few days later. My sister Anette Drummond was also killed, DOA that night October 25th 1968. His girlfriend was driving his new GTO getting in the onramp of the 405 freeway La Tierja on a very foggy night after attending an away ESHS football game. 2 survived and 2 passed away. The on ramp they went over was 8 stories high. It was a very sad time for our families and the town of El Segundo. Mike had been drafted to the NY Mets and bought the GTO. El Segundo is a baseball town and everyone supported him.

Mike was my brother's (Wayne Braden) best friend. Wayne was in the car when the accident happened along with Anette Drummond who was killed in the accident. Mike was like a brother to me and was always at our house. After the accident the whole town of El Segundo was behind all the families. Anette passed away that night and Mike passed away the day of Anette's funeral. Mike's girl Carman and Wayne were badly injured in the accident. Wayne passed away in 1984 at the age of 33. Mike was a great baseball pitcher and was drafted by the NY Mets. NY Mets manager Casey Stengel and other team members attended Mike's funeral. I just found a photo of Mike in his uniform on the bus going to a game. Mike was 19 years old and Anette was 18 years old at the time of their deaths. They have been missed for many many years.
