Managed Bayamon in PR in 78, lasted 3 months with a good hitting ball club

The Yanks traded John Blanchard to Kansas City for this guy in 1965 because Ellie Howard gets injured on opening day. That was the beginning of the end, the dawn of the Yankee downfall and it started with Doc Edwards.

I saw him manage the Atlantic City Surf about 3 years ago, and I think someone said he was sleeping in the dugout. Those early 90's Mets had a slew of these retreads as coaches.

Reportedly had Buddy's ear like no one else during the former shortstop's ill-fated tenure as manager, a number of players holding him responsible for certain decisions and demotions. Not well-liked.

I heard through stories from a friend of mine that knew Doc that he was about as warm and loving as Jeffrey Dahmer. An old school ingrate in his playing days always complained that he should've been starting instead of riding the bench.
