White was the second pitching coach in Mets history. He pitched for the Cardinals and I believe he beat the Yankees twice in the World Series in the early forties while pitching for the Cardinals.

White was the starter and winner in game 3 of the 1942 World Series. He shut out the World War II era Yankees with a complete game six-hitter. The Cards lost game one of the Series that year then won the next four.

White got into one game in the 1943 Series but did not have a decision.
