HERE IS WHAT OTHER METS FANS HAVE TO SAY:

Dave is one of the finest baseball announcers in America, and the Mets are lucky to have him. His voice and play by play are a total pleasure to listen to, and he and Seaver have a nice chemistry on the WB- 11. Not many announcers rise to a big moment like O'Brien does. If you heard Beltran's homer to beat Smoltz you know what I mean. He's a terrific baseball announcer.

Dave O'Brien might be a good announcer, but it constantly pains me to hear his often innacurate comments about the Mets in general. What I don't understand is this, why must the Mets have announcers that also work for ESPN as O'Brien does? He does not follow the team for most of the week and it shows in his broadcast. Plus did he steal Gary Thorne's voice because he sounds exactly like him.

It's funny - I think O'Brien is the best TV guy the Mets have had in a long, long time. He isn't on enough - because the channel 11 games are mostly weekends. But he seems to be the MOST accurate voice. Yeah, he sounds a lot like Thorney, who I liked too, but O'Brien is obviously a baseball announcer. Not a hockey guy doing baseball which I thought Gary was. I kind of like how his ESPN work gives him a feel for the whole league. He's got credibility.

THis guy was offered the job on SNY and turned it down because he wanted to moonlight at ESPN. Last year he and Seaver were coming out of the stadium and my son calls their names and they ignore him and sneak into their limo. At one time he was the also the voice of High Heat Baseball, a video game.

We've got him here in Boston now and he is horrible. On and on monotone repetition. He continually says the same things over and over without any change in tone. It may be that the TV crew here is superb. They make him look like someone's dad calling a high school game.

Dave O'Brien has become a big fan favorite here in Boston, calling the Red Sox on radio. Recently, "Boston Sports Media Watch," which does lots of rankings of broadcasters, had fans vote on Dave - and he had huge approval rating. He's excellent. Great voice. Perfect tone. My friends in New York loved him with the Mets, and we are really lucky to have him in Boston. He's outstanding.

Dave O'Brien has a rich, deep voice, and that's the nicest thing you can say about him. For some reason, the Mets felt the need to dump Gary Thorne for this guy, who flew into town to do weekend games on WPIX clearly showing no indication that he'd even bothered to watch highlights of the team during week. Slumping players were "hot" or "dangerous," he knew nothing about the Mets' NL opponents and he'd clearly rather tell Seaver how great he was all game rather than calling the balls and strikes. Inexplicably, the Mets thought about hiring *him* to be the voice of SNY but thankfully he didn't want to give up his ESPN job. Equally inexplicably, the Red Sox tossed Don Orsillo out of their booth for this shnook. In the golden age of GKR, we forget how bad we used to have it.
